Piet Slager Concert by quartet Lucas Hagemans
The first Piet Slager Concert on July 23 was sold out and a great success. Now there is a sequel and a new chance: on Saturday 3 September. Performing musicians are Tessa van Buuren (violin), Lucas Hagemans (violin), Vincie Faas (viola) and Cor Coppoolse (cello). During the concerts, initiator and artistic director Lucas Hagemans gives a varied insight into cultural life and 'community art' in 's-Hertogenbosch in the period 1870-1930.
Lucas Hagemans studied the music culture of 's-Hertogenbosch around 1900 and made surprising discoveries. Painters like Piet Slager, Herman Moerkerk and Jan Toorop were also proficient on the piano, multi-talented artists were the rule rather than the exception. “Not everything has been sorted out yet, but it is clear that the family Slager, the Bouman family and Alphons Diepenbrock acted as light bearers of culture in 's-Hertogenbosch”, says Lucas Hagemans.
On September 3, the string quartet will play works by, among others, Alphons Diepenbrock, Beethoven, Hans Rott and Leon C. Bouman. Their music and the closing march 'Forward' by Theo van Wamel received very enthusiastic reactions at the first concert. The march describes the pride and history of 's-Hertogenbosch, the art, the commercial spirit and also the importance of good education (also grow a good spirit).
De Piet Slager Concerts are part of De Bossche Zomer 2022, the annual event in which residents, organisations, companies and institutions organize presentations and meetings at surprising locations and thus give 's-Hertogenbosch as the Cultural City of the South a current and diverse face.
The concerts on Saturdays are from 16.30 pm to 18.30 pm (doors open from 16.00 pm). The entrance price is € 10, including intermission consumption. Museum card holders pay a € 5 surcharge. Please book in advance. See below!
