Lecture 'Brush princesses, female painters through the ages' by Else van Helmond on 2 October 2019

On October 2, Else van Helmond will enter at 20:00 Museum Slager, Den Bosch, the lecture 'Brush princesses, female painters through the ages'. With images and text she tells about the work and life of female painters in the past centuries, about their strength and difficult struggle to survive and paint in the art world defined by men.

Female masters have always been there. Some were even very successful in their time. But the mention of their names and work often did not appear in the canons written about painting. Even now it is that

in Dutch museums only 13% of the works on display come from female painters. In the last decades there has been more interest in these female painters and their work. Else van Helmond gives a lecture with images and tells about work and life of various female painters such as Judith Leyster, Michaelina Wautier, Thérèse Schwartze and others.

Else van Helmond was a teacher, organized various art trips and was a board member in the period 2003 - 2010 Museum Slager.
